Shirley J Williams

Shirley J. Williams, age 86 of Athens, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens. A native of Englewood, she was the daughter of the late James Terry and Laura Brock Sutton . She was a member of Athens Church of Christ and a lifelong caregiver to her family and others through the years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Mammaw) and great grandmother, and was known for her great cooking, wonderful sense of humor and her love for the Lady Vols Basketball Team.. She was preceded in death by her husband Frelon Charles "F.C" Williams, Jr. (May 6, 2015); grandson, Benjamin Young; son-in-law, Terry Garner; and several beloved brothers and sisters and extended family members.
She is survived by her  five daughters, Connie Williams of Brentwood, TN, Cathy Young (David) of Nashville, TN Karen Webb (Dexter) of Athens, TN  Kim Garner  of Hendersonville, TN, and Karla Brooks (Phillip) of Brentwood, TN; grandchildren, Heather (Bruce) MacLeod, Will (Rachel) Young, Ryan Singleton, Kevin (Erika)Young, Jordan ( fiancé Brooke Willett) Humphreys, Abby Garner, Owen Garner, Audrey Brooks, and Keeley and Adaline Webb; great-grandchildren, Mattie Ruth , Meredith, and Alex MacLeod, and Luke Young; sister, Mary Culberson of Etowah; brother, Joe Sutton ( Barbara) of Marietta, GA; brothers-in-law,  Bob (Jackie) Williams of Knoxville, Zeke Williams of Athens, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16, 2023, from 5-7 pm in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at  2 pm Friday, February 17, 2023, at Athens Church of Christ with the Minister Mark Littleton officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will be at  McMinn Memory Gardens following the service. Pallbearers will be David Young, Dexter Webb, Phillip Brooks, Bruce MacLeod, Will Young, Kevin Young, Jordan Humphreys, and Owen Garner.
