GLADYS ANITA FORTSCH, age 87 of Athens TN, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Starr Regional Medical Center of Athens. She was born in Zwolle, La. , resident of Athens since 1973 , a daughter of the late Earl and Cleola Quarles and preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Francis "Tom" Fortsch Sr. and Brother: Earl Quarles and Sister: Josephine Schapker. She was in the U. S. Navy. She was a substitute teacher in Athens City Schools and was very active volunteering in various organizations in the community. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Survivors: Sons: Thomas, Jr. and Alice Fortsch of Athens, Tenn., Paul Fortsch of Athens, Tenn., Three daughters and sons-in-law: Anita and Dale Newman of Louisville, Mary Ann and Alan York of Warren, Ohio Angela and Danny Oxendine of Maryville, Tenn. Sisters: Rosemary Smith of Dallas, Texas, Jenny (Paul Panunto) of Camp Wood, Texas Three Brothers: Gerald Quarles of Lake Charles, La. Lloyd Quarles of Yucaipa, Calif., Ronald Quarles of Zwolle La. several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father James Vick officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Tuesday, July 2, 2024 in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Good Faith Clinic or Meals on Wheels.
