Delores Jan Carter

Athens, TN

DELORES "JAN" CARTER, age 81 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Monday,  April 8, 2024 at her residence. She was a native of Andrews, North Carolina, resident of McMinn County for 64 years, and a daughter of the late Pastor G. D. Hogan and Anna Lou Trantham Hogan. She was preceded in death by her husband Louie E. Carter, Brother: Pastor Roy Hogan , Sister: Mary Lee Cardin. She founded and operated Carter Insurance Agency, which is still in operation today. She was a member of Triumphant Baptist Church. She was a former member and President of Athens Pilot Club, and former President and teacher of Life Underwriters Association. Her ministry and passion was playing the Piano. She played  for many churches in the area, including her late father Pastor G. D. Hogan's founding Church; First Bible Baptist Church. Jan along, with her siblings, were the members of the singing Hogan Family. 
Survivors: Two daughters and son-in-law: Teresa and George Hester of Athens, Tenn. Connie Carter  Robinson of Athens, Tenn, two brothers and sisters-in-law: David and Margo Hogan of Waynesville, North Carolina, Jimmy and Teena Hogan of Athens, Tenn., Sister and brother-in-law: Linda and Buster Evans, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 11 in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Preacher Jake Evans, David Hogan and life-long friend, Rev. Floyd Boggess officiating. Interment will follow in Foster Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Zach Hester, Allen Hester, Amos Hester, Bryan Carter, Christian Colloms, Matt Axley, and Stephen Farr. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P. M. Thursday in the funeral home, with a service directly following. The family would like to thank all of Jan's caregivers for their love and support; specifically Family & Faith Home Care and Hospice of Chattanooga.
