Charles Edward McNelley

Athens

Charles Edward McNelley, age 86 of Athens, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 24, 2024. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was the son of the late Bert and Addie Franks McNelley. He was a member of Mt. Verd Baptist Church and served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962. He was retired from Athens Bed Company after 34 years of service. He had a love for reading the bible, fishing and spending time at Watts Bar Lake. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Ruth McNelley and his brothers H.P., Sammie and Bobbie McNelley, and one sister Mary Francis McNelley Perry.

Survivors ; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Alesia McNelley of Ten Mile, Tennessee; granddaughter and spouse, Brittany and Brian Saffles of Madisonville, Tennessee; Great grandson, Raylan Saffles;

Graveside services will be 11:00 am Thursday, February 29, 2024, at McMinn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Curtis Porter officiating. The pallbearers will be Wayne Jarvis, Tim Cooper, Sammy Norton, Fred Melhorn, Brian Saffles and Jeff McNelley.
