BENJAMIN ASA ROUNTREE, age 83 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Monday, Feb., 19, 2024 at TerraBella of Athens. He was a native of Johnson County, Fla., resident of McMinn County, Tenn. most of his life, a son of the late Emra Thomas "Stump" and Gladys Ditmore Rountree and preceded in death by Daughter: Terra Rountree Two Sisters: Betty Jean Rountree, Gladys Irene Russell and Brother: Earnest Thomas "Tommy" Rountree. He retired from Bowater Paper as a millwright and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors: Two Daughters and sons-in-law: Beverly and Rob Long of Englewood, Tenn. and Shannon and David Self of Englewood, Tenn., Sister and brother-in-law: Becky and Harold Smith of Athens, Tenn. Two Grandchildren: Rachel Self of Englewood, Tenn., Joseph and Mandy Self of Pass Christian, Miss Three Great Grandchildren: Asa Sorrows, Peyton Self, and Tatum Self and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home. Interment will follow in McMahan Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Family and Friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made McMinn County Humane Society of St. Jude's Children Hospital.
