William McConkey

William R. McConkey, age 95 of Athens, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at his residence. He was a native of McMinn County and  a resident of Los Angeles, California until 1974 when he returned to McMinn County. He was  retired from Olin Chemical Company and was a talented builder, welder and handyman. He was preceded in death by his  parentsJessie Jackson and Flora Collake McConkey; wife, Loretta Anderson McConkey March 15, 2005; two sons, Larry Clayton and Johnny Clayton; five brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors;
5 Sons; Ron Clayton Sr. , Jerry Clayton, James Clayton, Kevin Clayton, Mark McConkey.
5 Daughters; Twila Clayton, Kathy Clayton Lynn, Lori Wallis,Sandra Vernier and Nancy Cooper.
Sister, Dorothy McConkey of California
 Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 
Graveside service will be 10 am Thursday, August 16, 2018 at McMinn Memory Gardens. There will be no formal visitation. Those unable to attend may send condolences to www.laycockhobbs/William.McConkey.com Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
