Wayne Gilbert Pierce

WAYNE GILBERT (JOE BUCK) PIERCE,  age 90 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, in Athens. He was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, Tenn., a son of the late Ray Gilbert and Nelle Cate Pierce.  He was retired from Bowaters Paper Co. and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and retired from the National Guard. He was a member of McMinn County Senior Center and particiapted in the Senoir Olympics. 

He was preceded in death by

  • His wife: Bobbie Jean Owens Pierce on April 4, 1998
  • A sister: Blanche Pierce.


  • Son and Daughter-in-law: David and Rachael  Pierce of Cleveland, Tenn.
  • One Granddaughter: Emily Pierce of Athens, Tenn. 
  • Grandson: Josh Pierce,
  • Four Great Grandchildren: Riley, Gavin, Damian, and Nikki Pierce.
  • Step Grandsons: Odin Gallagher and Maddux Gallagher.

Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 8, 2018 in Cedar Grove Cemetery with Pastor Robert Seaton officiating. 

Active pallbearers will be Brothers of the Southern Souls Motorcycle Club.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 Saturday in Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home.

Those wishing may make contributions to McMinn County Senior Center 205 McMinn Ave., Athens, Tenn. 37303  in honor of Wayne Pierce.
