Virginia R. Nunley, 75 of Athens, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was the daughter of the late Jack R. and Pearl Womack Palmer. She loved to dance and listen to singing at the Senior Center. She enjoyed spoiling her grand babies, as well as watching and feeding birds. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hugh Nunley (Dec. 15, 2014), four brothers, and one sister.
Survivors include, two sons, Allen Boggess (Missy) of Athens, Kenneth Boggess (Lori) of Athens; one daughter, Charlotte Willis of Athens, three brothers and two sisters; Billy Palmer of Decatur and David Palmer of Niota; Tommy Palmer of Madisonville, Joyce Longwith of Athens, Mary McKenzie of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Jefferson (Ray) Thomas, Jr. , Zaharrah (Aka Sheila) and Samuel Dennis, Rose and Austin Walker, Isais Willis, Brian Boggess, Brittany Boggess and Savannah Hyde. 17 great-grandchildren, Kaide, Dawson, Lucas, Bryson, Xzayla, Edward, Becca, Kenzi, Bentley, William, Nathaniel, Haley, David, Kolten, Kane, Madalyn and Emeryn. several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 7:00 pm Friday, April 7, 2023 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Floyd Boggess officiating. The entombment will be 10 am Saturday, April 8, 2023 in the Mausoleum at McMinn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers Spencer Hall, Michael Willis, Jefferson (Ray) Thomas, Jr., Johnathan Cranfield, Yankee, Mark Tudor, Austin Walker. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday before the service.
