Virginia Rose Burton

Virginia Rose Burton, age 83 of Athens passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026 surrounded by family and friends. A native and lifelong resident of Athens, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Nell Derrick Cline. She was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church although unable to attend recently because of her health. She retired from Athens Products Inc. with over 30 years of employment. She loved gardening, cooking and most importantly spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Carlos Burton (September 7, 1986); son, Greg Burton, and grandson Dirk Burton; two sister and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Zeke Williams, and Nellie and Jerome Bailey.

She was survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Dianna Burton of Athens, daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Tracy Wilson of Riceville; daughter-in-law Joan Burton of Athens; grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Thurman, Shelby and Jack Rymer, Craig and Tiffany Burton, Anthony and Dixie Burton, Brandon Underwood, and Jessica Moses; Seven great-grandchildren; best friend, Patsy Shirk; several Nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm Thursday, August 13, 2026, in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with a 2 pm graveside service to follow at McMinn Memory Gardens with Rev. Jonathan Kyle officiating. A special thanks to Sharon Wilson, the staff at Spring Arbor and Hospice of Chattanooga for their loving care of Virginia.
