Thelma Lee McNutt

Thelma Lee McNutt, age 90, of Athens, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026. She was born on April 9, 1935, to the late Winfred Coleman and Mattie Goins Coleman.

Thelma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She held a deep and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, a faith that guided her life and gave her strength, comfort, and purpose. She was a long-time member of East Athens Baptist Church, where she found fellowship and joy and faithfully served for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther Carl McNutt; her son, Richard McNutt; and her sisters Norma Honeycutt, Naomi Chapman, Harriet Crowder, Kaye Black, Ruth Ratledge, Phyllis Jackson, and Joyce Alford.

Thelma is survived by her son Jeff (Carol) McNutt; her grandchildren Matthew (Laura) McNutt, Josh (Kristie) McNutt, Jeremy (Brittany) McNutt, and Kelsie McNutt; 6 great-grandchildren, Caden, Brady, Eli, Isaiah, Will, and Ava McNutt, all of whom were precious to her.

She is also survived by her sisters Peggy Burger, Carolyn King, and Johnnie Markland; and her brothers Nelson Coleman, Donald Coleman, and Joe Coleman. In addition, she is lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 7:00PM in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5-7PM prior to the service.

A graveside service will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 11:00AM in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Thelma’s family will forever hold close the memories of her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. Though she will be dearly missed, her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
