Sandra Sledge

Sandra Brady Sledge, age 70 of Athens passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018, at her home. A life-long resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Ben Ermon and Nettie Mae Hicks Brady.  She was a member of East Niota Baptist Church and attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She was an employee for Athens City Schools for 33 years and worked with  Adult and Family Education of McMinn County and was named "Volunteer of the Year" for adult education.  She also served as a Proctor for G.E.D. testing from 1993-2010.  She was a member of the Beta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She was active in P.T.A. and P.T.O at North City, City Park, and Westside Schools.  She loved being involved with a lot of activities for children, working with the Parks and Recreation Department.

Survivors,

  • Son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Megan Sledge of Athens;
  • Daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Jimmy Head of Hendersonville
  • Four grandchildren, Cody Foster, Blaze Foster, Joe Sledge and Alex Sledge
  • Two step-grandchildren, James Head and Caleb Head;
  • Special friends, Becky Dalton, Winona Pless, Dottie and Jack Stout and Lisa Whitlock
  • Many cousins.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, July 1, 2018 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Lauren Boyce officiating.

Interment will follow in Niota Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Jack Stout, Mike Murphy, Jim Dalton, Mike Lowry, Mark Lowry, Steve Heath, Jeremy Falls, Marty Tallent, and Justin Coffman. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeremy Dalton and Bryan Dalton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Dr., Chattanooga, TN 37416 or University of Tennessee Cancer Institute Gyn Cancer Fund, 1926 Alcoa Hwy., Medical Bldg. F., Knoxville, Tenn. 37920. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
