RUTHIE M. STEPHENS, age 83, of Niota TN., passed away peacefully Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Lifecare Center of Athens. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn county, she is the daughter of the late Bill and Mary Ellen Sanders Goins.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eddie Stephens with whom she shared many years of life and love with; Several Brothers and Sisters.
She was devoted wife, mother, granny, sister, and friend to all. She was a longtime member of West End Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. She had a special love for the old red-back hymnals and Southern Gospel Music.
She leaves behind a legacy that will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many family members whose lives she touched. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the stories shared, the songs remembered, and the love she gave to her family.
Survivors:
Children; Chrissy McKheen; Doug (Lorie) Stephens; 5 Grandchildren, Stephaine (Scott) Barber, Hannah Stewart, Jessica (Mary) Boyle, Travis (Whitney) Stephens, Matthew McKheen; 4 Great-grandchildren, Kaleb Stewart, Lucas Wilson, Liam Barber, and Raylee Stephens; 2 Sisters, Molly Shelton, and Hazel (Bobby) Collins, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The graveside service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, Septemeber 9, 2026 in Cedar Grove cemetery with Rev. Jefferey Haney officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Doug Stephens, Travis Stephens, Mattew McKheen, Kaleb Stewart, Lucas Wilson, and Scott Barber.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Life Care Center of Athens for the love, kindness, and care they gave Ruthie during her time with them. Their compassion and dedication, meant so much to Ruthie and her family.
