Roy Lee Whaley

ROY LEE WHALEY, age 86 of Athens, TN passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Terra Bella Assisted Living in Athens. He was a native of Meigs County and a resident of McMinn County most of his life. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Clifford Whaley and his mother and stepfather Carlene and Ray Weir. He retired as a Superintendent of Shaw Industries and was a former employee of Bonet Industries. Roy attended First Baptist Church of Athens. He was a life member of Chilhowee Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Ferguson Whaley, son and daughter-in-law Shayne & Gail Whaley, son and daughter-in-law Barry & Heather Whaley, stepdaughter Dana (Sean) Jaquish, two brothers Bob (Carolyn) Whaley and Ronnie (Debbie) Weir, seven grandchildren: Emi Kate, Amelia, Nathaniel, Abby, and Cullen Whaley, Chloe and Caroline Jaquish all of Athens, TN.

Funeral services will be 6:30 P.M. Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home. Interment will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 18, 2026, officiated by Terry Stuart in McMinn Memory Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Whaley, Ronnie Weir and Jeff Ferguson. Active pallbearers will be Shayne Whaley, Sean Jaquish, Jason Wallis, Matt Goodin, Shane Sewell and RJ Ferguson. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home.
