Roy Richard Hutsell

ROY RICHARD HUTSELL, age 85 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2025, in Athens, Tenn. He was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, a son of the late William Clyde and Sarah Elizabeth Hackler Hutsell and preceded in death by sisters: Winona "Winnie" Axley, Blanche Landers, Carolyn "Cackie" Elliott, Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Elliott; Brothers: Bennett Hutsell, Charles Hutsell, Joe Hutsell, John Hutsell and Don Hutsell. He was formerly a superintendent of Water for Athens Utilities Board and later became a partner with his brother Don to operate Hutsell Trenching. He was a member of Sewee Church of God and McMinn Saddle Club.

Survivors: Wife of 45 years Jennifer Varnell Hutsell of Athens, Tenn. Two Sons: Thomas R. (Kristy) Hutsell of Greenville, South Carolina and Michael Hutsell of Athens, Tenn. Two Grandchildren, Anna Reid Hutsell and Jackson Hutsell, both of Greeneville, South Carolina. several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Pastor Linda Parton and Rev. Greg Hutsell officiating. Interment will follow in Sewee Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Keith Elliott, Chuck Hutsell, Scott Hutsell, Jeff Elliott, Steve Landers, Mike Queen, Bill Hutsell and Robert Randolph. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the funeral home.
