RICHARD LEE McCOY, age 56 of Athens, TN died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2026 at his residence. He was born in Dayton, Ohio to Hubert (deceased) and Jane Brakebill McCoy. Richard was preceded in death by twin brother, James Allen and sister, Marcia Lynn. He loved sports and was a faithful fan of the Cinicinnati Reds, Bengals, Boston Celtics and enjoyed watching WWE. Rick graduated from the University of the Cumberlands with a degree in accounting. He was a wealth of trivia knowledge and could readily cite sports statistics. He was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, the Civitan Club, Toastmasters, and an avid Special Olympics volunteer.
Survivors: Mother: Jane Brakebill McCoy of Niota, TN, Two sisters: Carol (Shawn) Rumbolt and Kathy McCoy, both of Knoxville, TN. Four Nephews: Kevin ( Samantha) Rumbolt, Matthew Rumbolt, Jake Grayson, and Max Grayson, Great Nephew: Daniel Rumbolt.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Saturday, Feb. 21 at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church with funeral services following at 5:00 P.M. with Rev. Stephen Yeaney officiating. Interment will be 11:00 A.M. Sunday, Feb. 22 in McMinn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Chris Hickman, Timothy Hoskins, Michael Joines, Kevin Sanders, Patrick Stephens, and Kevin Widener.
