Norma Jean Stanton Carroll age 95 of Athens passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at NHC Healthcare of Athens.
A native and life-long resident of Athens she was a daughter of the late Raymond Solomon and Bell Basinger Stanton and was preceded in death by her first husband, Glen Dodson and her second, husband Lewis "Sonny" Carroll; 3 brothers James E. Stanton, Ronnie Stanon and Raymond L. Stanton. 2 half sister, Linda Long and Barbara Stanton.
She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was a very Christian lady who was a very faithful servant to the Lord. If you were ever around Norma you were a different person when you left. She was a loving Mother to her son and many others who crossed her path throughout her life.
She was a former employee of Bowater where she worked as an Administrative Assistant having retired after 23 years of service.
She loved to bake and cook and once won an award for her pumpkin pie.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Freedom Baptist Church with Pastor Chad Oody officiating. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 8, 2026 at McMinn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM, Wednesday prior to the service at the church.
