Myrtle Lee Roberts

MYRTLE LEE ROBERTS age 98, a life-long resident of the Niota area of McMinn County, passed away March 15, 2018 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living.  She worked in various hosiery mills in Athens and Philadelphia, TN, until she became a mother and a full-time homemaker after WW II.  An active member of the Niota United Methodist Church until failing health prevented her attendance, she faithfully visited the shut-in members of the church and was an active member of the W.S.C.S. and then the U.M.W.  In 1985, she was recognized as Woman of the Year by the Cleveland District United Methodist Women, and was also recognized with Heart of Gold Award in Recognition of Exceptional Christian Service in 2004.

Preceded in death by:

  • Her parents Elbert Jerome and Maude Fillers Gregg
  • Her husband, Charlie F. Roberts,
  • Three siblings, Ruby Wallis, Viola (Vi) Small and Claude Gregg,
  • Special niece, Barbara Jean Small Cook.

She leaves to cherish memories: 

  • Her children, Vicki (Fred) Nixon, Debbie (Richard) Hashe, Elizabeth (William) Adsit and Charles Gregg Roberts and his friend Cobia Edgemon;
  • 7grandchildren and spouses, Renee (Bobby) Marshall, Mike (Morgan) Daniel, Robert (Loren) Hashe, Leighann (Thomas) Pelham, Ashleigh (Drew) Walters, Amber (Christopher) Card and Aimee (Anthony) Aiken;
  • 8 great-grandchildren, Justin Marshall, Jordan English, Wyatt Hashe, Iris Pelham,  Jackson and Carson Walters, Emma Catherine and Christopher Card;
  • 4 great-great-grandchildren, Owen and Mills Marshall, Avery Marshall and Ben English
  • 1 nephew, Dr. Donald E. Wallis,
  • Devoted nieces, Carlene W. Hill and Patsy G. Millsaps,
  • Special nephew-in-law, Jerry Roberts,
  • Special friend, Jim Weitzell,
  • Her friends and caregivers at Morning Pointe Assisted Living.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Saturday, March 17, 2018 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Ensminger officiating. 

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, March 18, 2018 at McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Niota United Methodist Church Backpack Fund, c/o PO Box 190, Niota, TN 37826, or a church charity of your choice.
