Milton Gene Simpson, 72, went Home to Jesus on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, at his residence. He was born Oct. 23, 1946, and was a lifelong resident of Tranquility Community, Athens, TN. He was a graduate of McMinn County High School and proudly served in the National Guard from 1965-1971, and was later employed with a local propane company before returning to farm full-time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Clemmie Hutsell Simpson, and his son-in-law, Kelly Thomas, Three Brothers: Nelson Simpson, Roy Simpson, Bill Simpson, and Sister: Helen Capizzi . He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Bohannon Simpson; his daughters, Jody Dake, and her spouse, Stephen Dake, and Jana Thomas; grandchildren, Sarah (Evan) Cnossen, Jenny Dake, Julia (Walker) Boldman, Jamin (Amanda) Dake, Janelle, Keljan, Joelle, Kenton, and Kelsa-Ana Thomas; great-grandson Gabriel Cnossen; sister Nell Simpson Andersen ; and sister-in-law Billie Simpson.
A celebration of life will be held at Clearwater Baptist Church on Tuesday, Oct. 8th. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with funeral services following at 7:00 p.m. and the Rev. Greg Hutsell officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Clearwater Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mitchel Bohannon, Steve Dake, Joe Simpson, Jim Simpson, Justin Dexter, Matt Dexter, Larry Knox, and Jamin Dake. Honorary pallbearers Reed O'Daniel, Foster Bohannon, Kenny Wilson, Glenn Bohannon, John Knox, Jerry Don Clark, Danny Hughes and Chester Simpson.
