Marion Jackson Humphreys

Marion J. Humphreys age 90 of Niota,died Tuesday Sept 18, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. 
A native of McMinn County, he was the son of the late G.J. and Roxie Kyker Humphreys.  
He was member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and was a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker. He farmed  all of his life and enjoyed telling people about his early days working as a logger with mules and horses. He enjoyed the farm, gardening and horseback riding as long as he was able. He will be remembered by those who knew him for his love of the farm, the outdoor, his soft spoken demeanor and great sense of humor.

He is survived by:

  • His wife of 69 years, Donna Strickland Humphreys of Niota.
  • One son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Debbie Humphreys of Athens;
  • Two daughters and son-in-law, Gail Humpherys and Linda and Mike Nichols all of Niota; 
  • One sister, Anna Mae Humphreys Derrick of Willow Acres;
  • Five grandchildren, Casey Humpherys, Adriana Mondone, Dustin Humphreys, Cristina Jaimes and Laura Hughes;
  • Nine great-grandchildren.

A special thanks to Amedysis Home Health Care, Dawn Thompson, his physical therapist and helpers, Dorothy Green, Prudence Phillips and close neighbor, Della Letner and Caris Hospice. A very special thank you to Dr. William Robinson and staff of Knoxville for his care and concern. Also, thanks to other close neighbors who donated their time and help.

Funeral service will be 7:00 pm Friday, September 21, 2018 in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Parton officiating.

The Interment will be 1:00 pm Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Kyker Family Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Casey Humphreys, Dustin Humphreys, Salvador Jaimes, Aaron Hughes, Joe Simpson and Jim Sherman.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday before the funeral service at the funeral home.
