Lonnie Latham

LONNIE LATHAM, age 69 of Athens, passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at his residence. 

A native of Athens, he was raised in Sweetwater and was a son of the late Frank and Bessie King Latham.  He was a hard worker and was a former employee of the Tennessee Military School, Tennessee Wesleyan College, Vestal Manufacturing, Ramada Inn, and most recently M&M Mars.  He recently accepted the Lord as his personal savior.  He had a contagious smile and loved to laugh and joke and if you knew Lonnie you would have heard him say, "The Highway Is My Brother."

He was preceded in death by:

  • 3 brothers, Edgar Latham, James A. Latham and Harrison Latham;
  • 1 sister, Lalia Jean Latham McDermott;
  • A son, Lonnie Franklin Latham;
  • A granddaughter Shatoya Hawkins.

Survivors:

  • 1 son and special daughter-in-law,  Felix and Christina Latham of Knoxville;
  • 1 daughter, Tawana Latham Smith of Grand Rapids, MI
  • 1 sister, Karen Peak of Sweetwater;
  • 1 sister-in-law, Pauline Latham of Sweetwater,
  • 1 brother-in-law, Elder Leuty McDermott of Riceville.
  • 3 special cousins, Bennie, Curtis and Otis Latham.
  • 16 grandchildren, Amanda and husband Jimmy Jones, Tyler Latham, Brittany Latham, Cameron Latham, Allison (Abernathy) Latham, Dorien Oggs Latham, Xavian Latham, Demetrius Oggs Latham, Kiyah Latham, Dominique Oggs Latham, Khadijah Latham, Kendra Latham, Khaleigha Latham, Clarissa Hawkins, Darlena Hawkins, Wayne Allen Hawkins, Jr.
  • 10 great-grandchildren.
  • Devoted Friend, Alice Mae Scruggs.
  • Good Friend, Pops
  • A host of special nieces and nephews

Graveside services will be 5:30 PM Monday, July 2, 2018 at Hammonds Cemetery with the Rev. Charlie Mack, Sr. officiating. 

Active Pallbearers will be James Latham, Robert White, Trevor McDermott, Lamar Colvin, Xavian Latham, Minister Kelly Hammonds

Flower Girls, Amanda Jones, Kiyah Latham, Khadijah Latham, Kendra Latham, Khaleigha Latham.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Monday, prior to the graveside at the funeral home. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Caris Hospice and a very special thank you to his daughter-in-law Christina Latham and Ida Robinson for their care during his illness.  Also the family would like to extend appreciation to all of those who came to visit and provided food during our time of bereavement.
