Lillie V. Davis, age 97 of Athens passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at NHC Healthcare of Athens.
A native and life-long resident of Athens. She was a daughter of the late Greely and Ora Mae Stansberry Davis and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Davis, her 4 sisters Hazel, Helen, Dollie Mae, and Allie Cricket. Lillie was the last of her generation. She is happy now to be reunited with them. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Born just before the Great Depression, Lillie quit school after the 8th grade to work and help her family. She continued helping her family for the rest of her life. She was a former employee of the Robert E. Lee Hotel, Newton's Restaurant and ABB where she retired after many years of service.
Survivors:
1 daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Tom Gruebnau of Bull Valley, IL
3 grandchildren and spouses, James and Tina Gruebnau, Cheryl and Van Williams,
and John Gruebnau
4 great grandchildren Nick, Josh, Paige, and Matthew; 2 great-great grandchildren Griffin and Mabel.
Special Niece and husband, Lorrie and David Haney of Athens who were of great help especially in her final years.
Several great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews
Memorial Services will be held at Woodward Ave. Church of God at a date yet to be determined.
