Kenneth James Allen

KENNETH JAMES ALLEN, age 85 of Athens, Tenn. passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Willow Acres in Riceville, Tenn. He was a native and resident most of his life of McMinn County, Tenn., former resident of Meigs County, Tenn. and Aberdeen,  Mississippi.  He was a son of the late Kermit Roosevelt and Alice Marie Elrod Allen.  He was preceded in death by Brother: Jack M. Allen, and Sister: Vivian Varnadoe.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens, Tenn., retired from Bowater Paper Corp. after 38 years service. He was a former member of Meridian Sun Lodge #50, F&AM, Athens York Rite Bodies and Alhambra Shrine. He was former President of Meigs County Alumni Association for 8 years Class of 1951. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force having obtained the rank of SSGT.

Survivors include:

  • Wife of 58 years: Maxine Moses Allen of Athens, Tenn.,
  • Daughter and Son-in-law: Kenna and Chad Mayeux of Athens, Tenn.,
  • Nephew, 2 great nieces and several cousins.

Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 11, 2019  in McMinn Memory Gardens with Drew Byers officiating. Active pallbearers will be Rodney Dunn, Kevin Hammond, Carey Hicks, Calvin Paul, Jerry Elrod.

There will be no formal visitation.

Memorial contributions may be to Shriner's Children Hospital 2900 Rocky Point Rd. Tampa, Fla. 33607, St. Jude's  Children  Hospital P, O. Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis, Tenn. 38101, or First Baptist Church of Athens Building Fund 305 Ingleside Dr. Athens, Tenn. 37303.
