Joseph Leon Norris

JOSEPH LEON NORRIS,age 85, of Athens passed away June 25, 2018 at Life Care Center of Athens. A native of Lowndes, Alabama and a resident of McMinn County for the past 60 years, he was the son of the late Thomas Weaver and Susie Marvin Norris. He was a member of First Baptst Church of Athens and was a self employed builder and brick mason. He loved ballroom dancing and was an instructor in Dalton , Athens YMCA and the Senior Center , He was a talented water skier and trick skier. He was a veteran of the US Army.  

He was preceded death by:

  • Three sisters; Marguerite Saxon. Jeanette Simpler and Inez Martinez,
  • Four brothers; William Norris, Sidney Norris, George Norris, and Charles Norris.

Survivors;

  • Dear friend and Caregiver; LonNelle Forkner
  • Two daughters and their mother; Sherry and Steve Hutsell , Dayna Norris and Cynthia Norris all of Athens.
  • Granddaughter and husband; Stephanie and Wally Turner of Athens
  • Three great-grandchildren; Logan and Lauren Turner, Caelyn Turner, and Landon Turner.
  • One great- great grandaughter; Nora Blair Turner
  • Two brothers; Herbert and Betty Norris Montgomery, Alabama, Robert Norris of Dothan, Alabama
  • One sister; Christine Pennini, TX
  • Dear friends; Bob and Betty Hutsell of Athens.
  • Many special nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 4:00pm Friday June 29, 2018 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with his nephews Ministers Bruce Coker and Joe Hudson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm Friday before the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Petty, Joshua Forkner, Wesley Hardin, Benji Forkner, Logan Turner, Wally Turner, Landon Turner, Steve Hutsell, Bob Hutsell, Fletcher Hudson, Spencer Hudson, Joe Hudson, Doug Hudson, Comer Coker, Larry Forkner and Jeffrey Forkner.

There will be a private family graveside at a later date.
