Johnny Arvin Grubb

Johnny Arvin Grubb, 81, of Athens Tennessee, passed away on May 12, 2022. He was born in Idlewild, Tennessee on October 7, 1940. He was a native of McMinn County and was the son of the late Hubert and Lillie Mae Grubb. He was the youngest of seven brothers; Frank, Jack, Kenneth, Dennis, Clyde, and Wayne. Johnny has been a member of First Baptist Church beginning in 1979 till present. He also was a first grade Sunday School Teacher for 25-30 years. He graduated McMinn County High School in 1958 and went on to the Tennessee Military Institute. He was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and went on to be the head football coach at Cordova High School. Johnny obtained a Master’s in Administration and Supervision from Samford University and served as a football coach there. He went on to be a football coach and the athletic director of Claiborne County High School. Johnny served as a Teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal at McMinn County High School. Johnny was awarded the A.F. Bridges Sportsman Principal of the Year. He was also a board member of the East Tennessee Education Association. He was also awarded the University of Tennessee’s William J and Lucille H Field award for excellence in secondary education leadership. After retiring, Johnny was a Silver Medalist in the National Senior Olympic Games. He was a Gold medalist in the state of Tennessee Senior Olympic games in 2021. 
He is preceded in death by his parents; Hubert and Lillie Mae Rogers Grubb, daughter; Angela (Angie) Grubb, and two brothers; Frank and Clyde. 
Johnny is survived by his Wife; Glenda McGriff Grubb, daughter; Terri (Vince) Mayberry of Leesville, Louisiana, grandchildren; Trevor, Zachary, Lauren, Kay, and Anastasia Mayberry, brothers; Jack (Oneida), Kenneth, Dennis (JoAnn), and Wayne Grubb, and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be 2pm Sunday, May 22, 2022 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Henard officiating. Interment will follow at Idlewild Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be grandsons, Trevor and Zachary Mayberry and nephews. Visitation will be from 2-5pm Saturday, May 21, 2022 at First Baptist Church. 
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Angie Grubb Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O McMinn County High School. 2211 Congress Parkway, Athens TN, 37303.
