Jewel Marie McDaniel

JEWEL MARIE (ROBINSON) MCDANIEL, age 93 of Athens peacefully slipped away into the arms of Jesus to celebrate the best Thanksgiving ever on Thursday, November 24, 2022. A native of Chattanooga and longtime resident of Miami, FL and then Athens, TN, Jewel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, T.J. McDaniel, and son, Kerry McDaniel, as well as her brother Jimmy Robinson and sister Patsy (Robinson) Stokes. Jewel attended First Baptist Church of Athens and loved having her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren around her. Proverbs 31:28 says “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her,” and these words are true of Jewel for she blessed the lives of family and all who knew her with love, beauty, and self-less giving, whether through cooking favorite foods, making custom birthday cards, or by listening and offering the wisdom of her own experiences.

            Jewel is survived by sister Sandra Epperson and brother David Robinson (wife June); two daughters, one son, one son-in-law and one daughter-in-law: Cheryl and John Fields of Dayton, TN, Barry and Karen McDaniel of Pine Island, FL, and Rhonda McDaniel of Bradyville, TN; grandchildren Joy (husband Chad), Robin (husband Samuel), Ryan (wife Leah), Kaitlin (husband Jarrod), and Kailie (husband Matthew); and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. All of the family are thankful for the care that Jewel received from the staff of Dominion Senior Living of Athens, TN and Hearth Hospice of Cleveland, TN.

            The funeral service will be held at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. John Fields officiating. Visitation begins at 12:30 p.m., followed by the service at 1:30 p.m. A private prayer with the family will be held at McMinn Memory Gardens prior to entombment on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations to Jewel's favorite organization be made in her honor to Pioneers (www.pioneers.org, account #111850 and account #112800).
