Hunter Hutchins, age 30, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Hunter’s story began on March 11, 1996, in Dayton, Ohio and spent his early years in Eaton, Ohio, before later making his home in Maysville, Kentucky, where he attended St. Patrick School and graduated from St. Patrick High School. He went on to attend Northern Kentucky University, graduating in 2019 with a degree in Political Science. During his college years, Hunter furthered his passion for learning, formed lifelong friendships, and embraced the many experiences and adventures that came with living near Cincinnati, Ohio.
Wherever life took him, Hunter had a gift for building relationships and becoming part of something bigger than himself. He genuinely enjoyed being with others and was a natural at being part of a team. Whether on the baseball field at St. Patrick High School, among family and friends, in the classroom, or alongside his fellow soldiers, Hunter built strong connections and made those around him feel welcome. He loved adventure and embraced life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to take on new challenges.
Hunter was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Franklin Gann Sr.; his grandmother, Donna Brennan; and his great-grandparents, Stella Gray (Wayne) Brown.
He is survived by his mother, Gina (Shannon) Gann-Cooper; his father, William “Bill” (Wanda) Hutchins; his brother, William “Will” Hutchins IV (Erica Massie); his beloved nephews, William Henry Hutchins V (“Liam”) and Knox Lane Hutchins, whom he adored; his grandmother, Andrea Johnson; his grandparents, William Henry Hutchins II (Tammy); his great-aunt, Janice (Don) Keeble; his uncle, James Franklin Gann Jr.; Cousin: James Franklin Gann III his aunt, Christine (Samuel) King; his aunt and uncle, Kris and Emily Hutchins; his aunt and uncle, Lara Hutchins and Michael Martone; his aunt and uncle, Matthew and Michelle Hutchins; his aunt and uncle, Josh and Mande Suttles; and numerous cousins, other family members, friends, fellow Soldiers, and loved ones.
Hunter answered the call to serve his country and was commissioned as an officer in the Army National Guard on June 26, 2021. From October 2022 through June 2025, he served as a Platoon Leader with the 577th Sapper Company before assuming duties as the 201st Engineer Battalion Assistant S2 in June 2025.
Throughout his military career, Hunter demonstrated unwavering dedication, selfless service, and a steadfast commitment to the Soldiers entrusted to his care. His legacy of leadership and service will be remembered by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
Though his time with us was far too short, Hunter’s life was marked by friendship, loyalty, service, and a genuine love for people. He leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of his mother, family, friends, fellow servicemembers, and all who knew him.
