Hubert Stephen Turner Jr born in Birmingham, Alabama to deceased Hubert and Louise Turner Sr had 1 brother, Tommy Turner, who also is deceased. Wife Dora Turner deceased but married for 69 years.
Hubert lived in Chattanooga for 55 years, worked for TVA (Mapping Department for 35 years) hand drew maps for them. He learned his skills through being drafted into the army for 2 years. While in the army, he not only learned drafting skills, he also played the bugle for them and was also a choir director in local churches near base.
College years were at University of Chattanooga for 3 ½ years before he got drafted. While at college he played tennis for the University. He also was an Eagle Scout. Hubert was a deacon at First Baptist Church Chattanooga as well as in the choir, men’s quartet and played on their adult men’s softball team until he moved to Riceville, TN.
After retirement, he moved to Riceville for 38 years to live in a log cabin he and his wife rebuilt. Loved mowing his 3-acre yard while his wife also helped and always planting flowers. He also had cows and horses to take care of as well as a dog or two and cats, birds, raccoons, opossums and deer.
Hubert us survived by his son, Mickey Turner, daughter in law, Leslie Turner, Daughter Valerie Gray and Son in law, Mickey Gray. Two granddaughters Ana Gray and Michelle Turner.
Hubert loved people, loved talking to anybody and truly loved his Hardee’s buddies and Hardee’s workers in Athens. We truly appreciate everyone who helped make his last years without his wife very memorable.
In lieu of flowers, donations to any charity of your choice. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 18, 2026, in Spring Creek Church of Christ with Danny Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in Upper Spring Creek Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mickey Turner, Mickey Gray, Doug Turner, Andy Turner, Matthew Gautreaux, and Todd Fleury. There will be no formal Visitation.
