Knoxville

Hazel C. McCall, age 101, of Athens, TN passed away on April 6, 2026, at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. A native of Peltzer, SC and a resident of Athens, TN since 1964, she was the daughter of the late Beno Grogan McCrary and Bertie Lee Brock McCrary.

Later in life, as part of the Athens community, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens, part of the "card ladies" in multiple women's social clubs, and an active volunteer for many organizations. However, she was most remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a wonderful cook. She was preceded in death by an infant son and her husband of over 75 years, Joseph Andrew McCall, Sr. (March 14, 2017), who promised to be waiting at the gates of heaven for her.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dr. Dan Thompson of Knoxville; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Pat McCall of Niota; four grandchildren, Alyx Thompson, Andy McCall (Katy), Chris McCall (Stephanie), and Michael McCall (Betsey); seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
