George Lee Harmon

George Lee Harmon, age 91 of Decatur went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2025.

He was a life-long member of Clear Springs Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He was a carpenter by trade and worked many years for Hay, Morris and Sutton Construction Company and Sweetwater Hospital Association Maintenance Department.

He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Eliza Benton Harmon, two brothers, Willis and Fred Harmon and two sisters, Elizabeth Davis and Marie Newberry; one son-in-law, Carey Wilcox, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Powers Harmon, 1 son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Kathy Harmon, 2 daughters and son-in-law, Lisa and Randy Farris and Laura Wilcox.

5 grandchildren and their spouses, Lacey Harmon, Stephanie and Jeremy Malone, Zachary and April Farris, Nathan and Miranda Harmon and Daniel Farris.

4 great-grandchildren, Connor and Jayda Malone, Kinlee and Landon Sims;

4 sisters, Wilma Rudd, Helen Moon, Eula Williams and Alice Coleman.

Many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Clear Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Fansler and Rev. Bo Coleman officiating. He will lie-in-state from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM Thursday prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Clear Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joe Malone, JJ Monroe, Josh Flory, Jamie Howard, Jeff White and Jackie Powers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Men's Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2025 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George's memory to CSBC Cemetery Fund c/o 653 County Road 100 Athens, TN 37303.
