Dorthy Nell Andersen, age 94 of Athens passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022 at her residence.
She was born in Niota, TN and lived on a farm on Clearwater Road to the late Floyd and Velma Simpson. She graduated from McMinn County High School and worked as a teacher at Tranquility and Idlewild Elementary Schools during the early years of the McMinn County School System.
She moved to Chicago, Illinois in her 20's and worked as a clerk for AIRCO where she met her husband of 57 years, Robert Willis Andersen and eventually moved back to Athens in 1979 and worked as a cook for McMinn County High School until she was 69.
She was a devoted wife to Robert Andersen who preceded her in death.
She was a devoted mother to 4 sons, Scott (Georgia) Andersen, Phil (Carolyn) Andersen, Eric Andersen and Kirk Andersen.
Her other survivors include two grandsons , Nicholas Anderson and Spencer Andersen. She has many nieces and nephews one step-grandson and two step-granddaughters.
She loved to dance with her husband at the Senior Center in Athens and playing boardgames with their family.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, April 14, 2022 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Don Coulter officiating. Interment will follow in Sewee Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon-1:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
