Donald Willard Thompson

Donald W. Thompson, age 83 of Decatur, died Friday, January 11, 2019 at his residence. A native of McMinn County and resident of Meigs County most of his life, he was the son of the late Howard Otis and Bernice Wallis Thompson. He was of the baptist faith and enjoyed Meigs County softball and football games. He enjoyed boat riding, water skiing and working in his yard.  He taught at Ten Mile Elementary, worked for Farmers Chemical Co in Chattanooga and later retired as the director of Meigs County EMS.

He was preceded in death by

  • His wife, Melissa Green Thompson;
  • Sister, Mary Faye Thompson,
  • Brother, Eugene Thompson;
  • Sister-in-law, Kathy Thompson;
  • Special aunt Maude Wallis;
  • Two great nephews, Derek Vincent and Landon Chase Scott 
  • Great niece, Allison Gail Scott
  • Brother-in-law; Gene Vincent

Survivors include:

  • Two sisters and brother-in-law; Evelyn Vincent of Decatur; Carolyn and Wayne Scott of Decatur
  • Two brothers and one sister-in-law; Hoyt and Betty Thompson of Decatur; Arnold Thompson of Ten Mile
  • Nine nephews and one niece. 
  • Eleven great nephews and nieces.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, January 13, 2019 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Graves officiating.

The graveside service will be at Mt Zion Cemetery following the funeral.

The nephews will be pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1-3pm Sunday before the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery c/o Rick Crabtree 1264 Upper Concord Rd. Ten Mile, TN  37880.
