Betty Beatrice Sharitz Duncan

Betty Beatrice Sharitz Duncan, age 91, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at her residence.

Born April 29, 1931, in Athens, Tennessee, to Guy William Sharitz and Gladys Leona Randall Sharitz. Betty grew up in Athens and was a self proclaimed tom boy in her younger years.  She lived in Athens, Tennessee until her father was transferred to Franklin, North Carolina, where she graduated from High School.  She continued her education at Tennessee Wesleyan College.

Betty had many careers while creating a loving home with her husband, Patton M. Duncan.  Her greatest pride was being a wife and mother.  She loved reading and the pleasure of experiencing new adventures through the printed word.  Betty was an experienced historian and genealogist; she had traced both branches of her own family and her husband's family.  She helped to create the McMinn County history.  Betty was a member of the DAR and Daughter of the Confederacy.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Patton McDowell Duncan, her mother Gladys, her father, Guy, and her sister, Rosetta Sharitz.

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Terah and Lloyd B. Stearns of Georgetown, Texas, and Deborah and George R. Parker for Bryan, Texas; three grandchildren and their spouses, Erik Patton Stearns, Amber Elizabeth and Joseph R. Dittfurth, Christian Allen and Marina Rae Parker; and her great grandchildren, Alidie Sage Booker, Emma Elizabeth Dittfurth, Rebecca Clair Dittfurth, James Ryan Dittfurth, and Colette Trinity Parker; and three nephews, Donald Duncan of Andrews, N.C., Richard Elrod of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Russell Elrod of Nashville, Tennessee.

The family is having a private celebration of life before Betty will return to her home state of Tennessee for interment.

Betty's greatest wish was to do for others and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends make donations to their favorite charity in her memory or to a church she loved to visit, Brazos Fellowship Church, 226 Southwest Parkway, College Station, Texas 77840.
