Ann Joines

November 28, 1939 — January 27, 2026

Vincent, AL

Lloyd Ann Joines age 86 of Vincent Alabama passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 27, surrounded by the comfort of her loving family. She was a native of Niota in McMinn County Tennessee and a 1957 graduate of McMinn County Highschool. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Lloyd Hicks and Sarah Marie Bowers. She is survived by her adoring husband of 68 years, Dr Karen Randolph Joines and their daughter, Deborah Ann Joines, and their son, Scott Randolph Joines and his wife Jennifer Radford Joines. In addition, she is survived by three beloved and grateful granddaughters who considered her as a mother; Sidney Marie Joines, Emma Camille Joines and her husband Chance Wadsworth, and Macie Scott Joines. The immediate family are devastated by her loss, but strengthened by warm memories of her love and care. She will also be missed by numerous treasured cousins, extended family, friends and neighbors.

Ann had many wonderful attributes; foremost among those was her gentle nurturing spirit. This quality is remembered by her family in the many memories of the delicious meals she cooked, the industriousness with which she supported her husband’s many projects, the tenderness with which she attended to the sick, her quick humor in difficult moments, the gentle playing of the piano at her children’s bedtime and later for her grandchildren, her kindness and generosity towards others, her loyalty to loved ones, and the warmth of her affection.

Many of the joyous times of Ann’s life were associated with her love of ballroom dance and the many long-term friends that she and her husband, Karen, made during those times. They were involved for many years with the Arabs Dance Club, which was one of twelve local Birmingham ballroom dance clubs that each hosted an annual dance that Ann and Karen dedicatedly attended. Ann was recognized by all as an especially graceful and accomplished dancer. She was stylish and elegant both on and off the dance floor.

Notable memories are of Ann working at the library at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky where her husband was studying for his doctorate. During that time, she also played the piano at the many churches in which her husband spoke in both Kentucky and Indiana.

During her children’s early years Ann and Karen built a home on their farm and a lake house where numerous fond memories emerged. Ann enjoyed hosting parties, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and water skiing with her family and friends.

Many special memories flow fondly from the home of her proud parents, Lloyd and Marie Hicks, in Niota Tennessee, which was the site of countless visits for holidays, reunions, or gatherings with extended family.

Ann was fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel extensively and globally in her life. Notable amongst these experiences was the time she spent in London, England while her husband was professor in residence at the Samford University London Centre.

While the family’s grief at her passing is tremendous, they are grateful for her life and spirit, and will forever remember the warm and loving times they shared and rejoice fully in a life well lived. Godspeed, Lloyd Ann Hicks Joines. Well done.
