Julia Harriet (Raby) Kinser

May 6, 1941 ~ November 25, 2018 (age 77)

Julia Harriet Raby Kinser, age 77 of Red Bank passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 at her residence. A native of Ten Mile, former resident of Washington D.C. and current resident of Red Bank, she was a daughter of the late Hobbs Ellis and Nellie Mae "Jack" Stephens Raby and was preceded in death by an infant brother. A member of Shiloh Baptist church where she painted the Baptistry.  She had a natural eye and tallent for artwork that started at the age of nine with crayon drawings, and has continued throughout her life as she was asked to decorate store fronts in Kingston, Tennessee and once designed a sign as an advertisement for Boarding Horses at a Stable for their front yard.  They loved it so much that they took the sign out of the yard and hung it above the couch in their house.  After attending college she was an employee of the Navy Department in Washington D.C. and continued her abstract art after raising her children.  Her artwork is featured in Museums including The Whitney Museum in New York, The Tate Museum in London, Chicago and Washington D.C.

Survivors include:

  • Husband of 55 years, Robert Spencer Kinser;
  • 1 daughter and son-in-law, Laura Lea Kinser and Keith Brian Dressler of Ooltewah;
  • 1 son and daughter-in-law, Robert Christopher and Melissa Anderson Kinser of Athens;
  • 3 sisters, Eunice Raby Johnson of Kingston, Janet Raby Price of Baldwin, Wisconsin, Corlas Raby Lorino of Montville, New Jersey;
  • 2 grandchildren, Denver Channing Dressler and Aspen Delaney Dressler both of Ooltewah
  • Several nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday, November 28, 2018 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. John Crabtree officiating. 

Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 12 Noon-1:30 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
