Helen Clara (Ball) Thompson

May 9, 1936 ~ May 30, 2019 (age 83)

Helen Clara Ball Thompson, age 83 of Athens passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 at U.T. Medical Center.  A native and resident of McMinn County most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Thomas and Lydia Delema Fleming Ball and was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Raymond Ball and Richard Ball.  A member of East Athens Baptist Church, she loved sewing, writing, bowling and taking cross country trips with her husband in their RV, She was very devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include:

  • Husband of 64 years, Carl E. Thompson, Sr.;
  • 1 son and daughter-in-law, Carl "Buddy" and Jeanie of Englewood;
  • 2 daughters and sons-in-law; Vicki and Larry Ritchey  of Maryville; Sandy and Mark Murdock of Niota;
  • 1 brother, Rex T. Ball of Sweetwater;
  • 7 grandchildren
  • 6 great-grandchildren
  • Several nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Sunday, June 2, 2019 at East Athens Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Robertson officiating.  Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, June 3, 2019 at Beulah Chapel Cemetery

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday prior to the service at the church.
