Dora Faye Smith peacefully transitioned from a mountain top in Riceville, Tennessee to her new home with the Lord on September 14, 2019. Born in the best small town in Florida, DeFuniak Springs, to the Rev. Jessie E Thomas and his wife, Mary Frances Whitehead-Thomas . Known as Dora Faye to family and simply, Faye, to friends, she devoted all her 93 years to God and her family. During her long and happy life, she experienced the physical loss of her parents, her husband of 43 years, Cosmo and sons Jesse and William, her brother Walter, her sister Luverne , but rested tranquilly in the knowledge that her deeply religious kin would meet with her again. Her daughter Retha (Rob), grandchildren Travis (Melissa), Robert (Virginia), Amy, Amanda, Tara, five great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews feel her love and support amplified as she watches over and guides them on their individual journeys. Devoted to her faith, Faye was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Seminole. It was at Aldersgate where Faye spent most of her time and made lifelong friends supporting the church and its congregation. She was involved in the Stephen ministry, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir and the Serendipity Circle and as well as a church historian. For years, Faye could be found in the church office counting money on Monday’s and spent 35 years at the church’s pre-school in various roles from bookkeeper to interim Director, but could always be found teaching and leading children in prayer, spreading love and kindness to anyone, anywhere. After moving to Trinity, Florida with Retha’s family, she was active in Hope United Methodist Church. The family welcomes you to celebrate Faye’s life Saturday, October 12th, 2019 at Aldersgate UMC, 9530 Starkey Road, Seminole, FL 33777. Visitation 2:00 and service at 3:30.
