Rev. William Lee "Bill" Barr, age 88, of Athens passed away Friday, April 18, 2008.

A life long resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Raymond "R.C." and Myrtle Smith Barr, and was preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Lee Frye Barr on April 13, 1997; a sister, Syble Barr Thompson on August 9, 2005; and a brother, J. W.Barr on April 22, 1989.

He was a member of Mt. Verd Baptist Church and was a former pastor of several Baptist churches in McMinn and Meigs Counties.  He was a former agent for Kentucky Central Life Insurance Company and a former employee of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home.

Survivors: Devoted son & daughter-in-law: Raymond & Jody Barr of Athens.  His loving grandaughters: Lacey Barr, Tiffany Barr,  and Brittany Barr, all of Athens.  Sister-in-law: Louise Hughes of Athens.  Several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with W. Raymond Barr officiating.

Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home.
