Willard Franklin Womac, 89, of Athens, left his worldly home on Sunday, July 13, 2008, at SkyRidge Medical Center in Cleveland.

A native and resident for most of his life of McMinn County, he was a son of the late John and Fannie Wilson Womac. He was preceded in death by one brother, Oscar Womac; and three sisters, Ollie Swafford, Ida Swafford and Suda Swafford. He was a former employee of the Clayton County Fire Department in Forrest Park, Ga., and was of the Baptist faith. A veteran of World War II, he served under British General Montgomery in North Africa with the anti-aircraft division of the U.S.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Oliver Womac of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Faye and John Parks of Calhoun; one granddaughter and her husband, Krystil and Dennis Belcher of Georgetown; one great-grandson, Panama Belcher of Georgetown; one brother and sister-in-law, J.D. and Ruby Womac of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Dink Harris officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
