Wanda Caroline Harris, 66, of Athens, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at her residence.
A native of McMinn County, and a resident here for most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow Dyer and Gladys Bernice Lankford Dyer Collins. She was retired from Magic Chef, where she served as editor of the Magic Chef Newspaper. She attended Lee College and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Harris Sr.; one grandson, Adam Harris; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Roger Collins and Ralph and Edna Collins.
Survivors include one daughter and fiance', Tammy Shelton and Tommy Dale of Athens; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest Jr. and Jennie Harris and Michael and Billie Harris, all of Athens; four grandchildren, Jamie Shelton, Josh Harris, Justin Harris and Jesse Harris; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Rule of McMinnville, Bobbie Hicks of Athens, and Shirley Scott of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ronnie Collins, Otto Fincher and Toni Collins, all of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. DeWayne Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Joshua Harris, Jesse Harris, Jamie Shelton, Justin Harris, Matt Campbell and Lawrence Maynard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
