Virginia June Pullen Liner, 99, of Athens, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at NHC Health Care of Athens.
She was born Feb. 17, 1909, in Meigs County to the late William and Ella Rose Winthery Pullen, and was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Liner; four sisters, Veda Powers, Verna Pullen, Mirdeth Roberts and Juanita Bentley; and three brothers, Hubert, Cecil and Corbin Pullen. She grew up in Decatur and graduated from Meigs County High School in 1926. She married Harvey Liner on Dec. 29, 1926, after which, she and her husband owned and operated motels in Athens, Florida, Cleveland and Chattanooga, and returned to Athens in 1980. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews; and a longtime caregiver, Mary King.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Reed Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Dannel, Matt Dannel, Bobby Roberts, Shane Roberts, Kris Powers and Lewis Thomas.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
