Roy D. Hicks, Sr., age 87, of Niota, died Saturday at Bradley Healthcare Center in Cleveland.
A native and life-long resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late J. W. and Eliza Jane Wattenbarger Hicks, and was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Hoback Hicks in 1988; Two sons, Roy D. Hicks, Jr. and Steve C. Hicks; and a daughter, Patricia Gennoe.
He attended the Old Pond Hill Baptist Church and was a long-time farmer and carpenter. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army.
Survivors: Two Daughters & son-in-law: Doris & Henry Graham Bernice Hicks all of Niota, TN. Sister: Edna Hicks Miller of Athens, TN. Eleven Grandchildren; Twenty-Five Great-grandndchildren; Sixteen Great-great-grandchildren; Special niece and nephew: Jarrod & Willa Crabtree and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8:00 P.M. Monday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Puett and Rev. Scotty Bales officiating.
Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Foster Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Chuck Wooden, Ed Graves, Hershel Ray Crabtree, Jarrod Crabtree, Edward Pitcock, and Daren Sneed. Honorary pallbearer will be J. L. Self.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 P.M.
