Dr. Marion Bartley Knight Jr., 73, of Athens, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at his residence.

He was a native of Blountstown, Fla., and a son of the late Marion Bartley Knight Sr. and Lula Virginia Gilford Knight. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Judge Philip J. Knight and the Rev. Francis M. Knight; and one sister, Mary Virginia Knight. He was a graduate of Baylor High School, Emory University and the University of Miami School of Medicine. He practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Perry, Fla. and Panama City, Fla., and served as emergency room physician at Oral Roberts University City Of Faith Hospital in Oklahoma, Cleveland, and numerous other hospitals in East Tennessee. He was a devoted Christian, served on the board of YMCA Camp Ocoee and volunteered as a doctor for the camp.

Survivors include his wife, Adelia Guthrie Knight of Athens; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Steven B. and Tracy P. Knight of Farragut; one daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Lynda and Loring Rogers of Athens; four grandchildren, Phillip Knight, John Knight, Andrew Rogers and Ashley Rogers; one half-brother, Billy Cayson of Bristol, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Steve Knight, Loring Rogers, John King, Phil Provo and Tom Scott.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
