LORENE BROWN McKINNEY, age 86 of Athens, Tenn. died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Tenn.

A native and life-long resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Sudie Matthews Brown and was preceded in death by her husband, Ted McKinney on Feb. 9, 1991; a grandaughter, Kim Shoemaker; a son-in-law, Don Crittenden; and a former son-in-law, Warner Sisk, and brother, Ray Brown.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the Spring Creek Church of Christ.  She was a former employee of Chanders Fabric Store and she and her late husband Ted owned and operated the McKinney Coal Sales and Services. 

Survivors: Best Friend, Harold Guthrie of Athens, TN. Daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy Crittenden of Athens, TN.  Linda and Denzil Watson of Athens, TN.  Janice and Alvin Shoemaker of Niota, TN. Sons & daughters-in-law, Marshall T. and Reba McKinney of Athens, TN.  Jerry Dale and Janice McKinney of Athens, TN.  Sister & Brother-in-law: Wanda and D. C. Trotter of Rock Hill, SC and Sister-in-law, Roxie Brown of Chattanooga, TN.  Grandchilren and families: Wes and Tammy Crittenden of Riceville, TN and children Tyler Crittenden & friend, Tiffany Templeton &  Ashley Crittenden and friend, Jeremy Teague; Ted and Dana Watson of Athens and children Taylor Watson and Ryley Watson; Vicki and David Campbell of Athens and daughter, Kelsie Campbell; Tammy and Brian Ford of Athens, TN and daughter Carson Ford. Marsha and Bob Kincaid of Italy.  Scott and Annette Hinshaw of Athens, TN and Marsha and Scott's children Jeffery Hinshaw & friend, Ashley Ratcliff and Patrick Hinshaw and his wife, Ashley.  Libby and Don Brown of Lenior City and their children, Jeff Brown & friend Ginny Swearengen and Travis Brown and his wife, Kelsey.  Stuart and Carol McKinney of Athens, TN and their children Hunter McKinney and Haley McKinney; Lori and Trent Giles of Riceville and their children, C. J. Giles and Nicholas "Nic" Giles.  Lacey and Micheal Hoover of Bridgeport, AL and their children, Katyln Hoover, Madison Hoover, and Blake Hoover.  Jeremy and Megan McKinney and daughter, Kristen McKinney of Bridgeport, AL.  Great-great-grandaughter, Kayleigh Teague. Step-grandchildren, Ashley Neill, Kelsey Daniel, Nic Daniel, Chris Kincaid and Matt Kincaid. Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Sunday at Spring Creek Church of Christ with Minister Larry Jelley officiating and Minister Tim Gunnells leading the congregational singing.

Interment will follow in Upper Spring Creek Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Grandsons.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 P.M. at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens, TN.

The body will lie-in-state at the Church Sunday from 1:30-2:30 P.M. prior to the service.
