Larry Dean Kyle, 58, of Ooltewah, and formerly of Athens, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008.
A native and former resident of Athens, he was a son of the late Marvin Jessie and Lela Francis Stanton Kyle, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Kyle and Kenneth "Butch" Kyle; and one nephew, "Little" Teddy Kyle. He was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church in Chattanooga, and served in the U.S. Navy. An employee of Bowater Paper Corporation for 34 years, he was a member of the Bowater Good Fellows Club. He was an avid UT "Big Orange" fan and a former Golden Glove boxer.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, April Kyle Pettyjohn and Michael Pettyjohn of Decatur; one son and daughter-in-law, Robbie and Lisa Kyle of Niota; four grandchildren, Cody Allen, Lauren Kyle, Justin Kyle and Amber Kyle; the mother of his children, Robin Mobley of Hixson; one sister, Carolyn McKee Nelson of Athens; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Barry and Jan Kyle of Ooltewah, Garry Wayne Kyle of East Ridge, Eddie and Anita Kyle of Athens, and Teddy Kyle of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Fritts officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Matthew Kyle, Lester Gassaway, Chip Garret, Steve Henry, Pete Matson and Larry Newport. Honorary pallbearers will be D.W. "Flippo" Hogan and Denny Williams.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
