John Luther \"J.L.\" Peak, 81, of Decatur, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.

A native and lifelong resident of Meigs County, he was a son of the late Wilbur Stanford Peak and the late Rosie Smith Douglas, and was preceded in death by one son, John Allen \"Johnny\" Peak, on April 22, 1975; and three sisters, Margaret Easter, Leta Shelton and Mildred Montgomery. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, and was a member of Meigs Lodge No. 213 F&AM He was a retired employee of T.V.A., where he worked for 25 years, and was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Louise Cranfield Peak of Decatur; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debra and Jack Everhart of Riceville, and Patricia Haggard of Sweetwater; one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Kathy Peak of Sweetwater; one sister, Mary Lee Edgemon of Sweetwater; seven grandchildren, Travis Walden, David Walden, John Vaughn, Shelly Whitted, Rebecca Rodriguez, Amy Gilliard and Casey Peak; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Ray and the Rev. Randall Butler officiating, with a Masonic service by Meigs Lodge No. 213 F&AM. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Travis Walden, David Walden, John Vaughn, Casey Peak, Ronnie Whitted, Donnie Whitted, Tyler Cordery and Jack Everhart.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
