Jimmie Nell Dennis Roberts, 68, of Athens, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native of Meigs County and resident most of her life of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late James Henry and Nell Ruth Hair Dennis. She was a member of Valley Road Baptist Church and a former employee of Athens Bed Company, Decatur Industries Sewing Factory and Taylor Sportwear.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Thomas Earl Roberts of Athens; two daughters and one son-in-law, Earlene Roberts and Darlene and Scott Thornton, all of Athens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Sheila Dennis, and Charles and Candace Dennis, all of Athens; four grandchildren and one spouse, A1C Nathan Thornton of Offult Air Force Base in Bellevue, Neb., Eric Thornton of Corbin, Ky., Jamie and Kelly Roberts, and Jeremy Roberts, all of Athens; two great-grandchildren, Parker Roberts and Aiden Thornton, both of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Swafford officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at McMinn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be A1C Nathan Thornton, Eric Thornton, Josh Dennis, Josh Hair, Anthony Dake and James Hennessee. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Roberts and Jeremy Roberts.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
