HELEN  FAIRMAN, was born January 12th, 1937 and departed this life at the age of 71 at her home in Athens on April 30, 2008.

She was of the Lutheran Faith.  A native of Texas, she was preceded in death by her parents, George and Kathryn Hewlett Smith; a daughter, Lori Ellen Fairman Smith in July 2003; and a son, Steven Floyd Fairman on Oct.  2005; two great-grandchildren, Erin Renee Pettengill in 1997 and Nicklos Riley Hein in 2002.

She was married to Mancil F. Fairman for 43 years. Many of those years, she was moving with him, wherever the military would send him.  Whenever she and their children couldn't go with him, due to him being in combat, defending his country, she was home praying and being both Mother and Father to their children.

She was a loving and devoted wife to her surviving husband, Mancil F. Fariman of Athens; A precious mother to their children, she has one surviving son, Kenneth "Ken" Floyd Fairman of Athens; Four daughters and two sons-in-law: Kathy Smith of Athens; Mary Blair of Smithville, Texas; Frances and Ronald "Ron" Hein of Dillsburg, PA; Charolett and Mike Weeks of Savannah GA.; and one daughter-in-law, Karen Fairman of Athens; 8 Grandhildren; 12 Great-grandchildren; 1 Brother, George R. Smith of Keller, Texas; two very special friends, Sara Kasprzyk of San Antonio, TX and Jack Brown of Youkan, Texas. A special nephew Aaron Smith of Texas and many other nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 8:00 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Sikes officiating.

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday in McMinn Memory Gardens. 

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-8 P.M. at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home.
