Harold Hoyt "Papaw" Kelley, 81, of Athens, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Joseph Gus and Della Perry Kelley, and was preceded in death by one son, Gary Richard Kelley. A retired employee of J.M. Huber and a former employee of Beaunit, he was a member of J.M. Huber Retirees. He was an avid camper, hunter and traveler, having traveled to all 50 states until his health did not allow him to do so. He was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Aline Overstreet Kelley of Athens; one son, Randy Kelley of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Sam Brackett of Athens; three grandchildren, Kelli Brackett, Adam Kelley and Lucy Weeks; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel Weeks and Alexander Weeks.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Ogle Wattenbarger officiating. Graveside Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Kenny Brackett, Adam Kelley, Rex Webb, Butch Farrell, Roger Leamon and Shannon McDaniel.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
