Edna Self Trotter, 98, of Athens, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Dahlonega, Ga., and a former resident of Rome, Ga., she had lived in Athens for most of her life. A daughter of the late George Washington and Eliza June Lackey Self, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar B. Trotter; one daughter, Martha Frances Trotter Swafford; three sons, Kenneth Lidella Trotter and two infant sons, Clarence Lee Trotter and Jerry B. Trotter; four sisters, Edith Underwood, Ada Gunter, Ethel Morris and Martha Lewis; and three brothers, Elbert Self, Leonard Self and Jewel Self. In early life, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens and was a member of East Athens Baptist Church for 66 years, attending church as long as her health permitted her to go. She was a former employee of Athens Woolen Mill, Van Raalte Hosiery Mill and Earl\'s Cafeteria.
Survivors include one daughter, Gladys Trotter; one grandson and his wife, Jerry and Tina Swafford of Athens; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Swafford, Emileigh Swafford, Todd Swafford and Blake Swafford; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Chaplain Greg Harper and the Rev. Benny Thomas officiating.
Pallbearers will be deacons of East Athens Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home.
