Edna Myrtle Spurling Nehls, 103, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at her great-niece's residence.

She was a native of Ducktown, a former resident of Kankee, Ill., and a resident of McMinn County for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Laura Passmore Spurling, and was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Nehls; and five brothers, Crimmal, John, George, Henry, and James Spurling. She was retired from Roper Corporation in Kankee, Ill., and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her loving great-niece and caregivers, Diane Tillman and children, Jonathan and Taylor, and Hazel, Nina and Jake Spurling, all of Athens; one niece, Betty O'Connor and children, Randy, Doug, Jennifer and Stephanie, all of Illinois; a longtime very special Friend, Frances Jones of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will recieve friends from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
